The Importance of Exfoliation

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, but it is likely one of the most overlooked! Caring for your skin is an essential part of a healthy routine, and exfoliation is a great way to start.

Your body is constantly shedding skin – over eight pounds a year! You can help with this process by exfoliating. Check if your skin requires exfoliation by looking for rough texture, discoloration, age spots, dullness or dry skin. Elbows and knees are prime areas for exfoliation.

There are several ways to exfoliate:

     1. Dry brushing

     2. Loofahs

     3. Exfoliating scrubs

Dry brushing is an ancient method of exfoliation believed to increase circulation. Before you take a shower or bath, use a brush with soft, short bristles and make light, circular motions beginning at the feet and moving upwards.

Loofahs are an easy way to add exfoliation to your routine while still using your favorite soap or body wash! Natural loofahs are the fruit of a plant in the cucumber family, but many synthetic alternatives are available.

Exfoliating scrubs are a luxurious addition to your skincare routine. Use exfoliating scrubs daily on areas like elbows, knees and feet and as often as needed everywhere else. Use circular motions to massage the scrub into your skin and then rinse off. While there are many scrubs available, it’s essential to use natural exfoliants. Ingredients like oats, cornmeal, sugar, salt and coffee grounds provide chemical-free exfoliation and are good for the environment!

Kentucky Soaps & Such offers a variety of natural scrubs. Our sugar scrub is a gentle smoothing exfoliant, and our salt scrub softens skin. Our coffee scrub energizes skin and can reduce cellulite. For those with sensitive skin, we recommend our unscented salt scrub. You can also customize it with your own essential oils.

These exfoliating scrubs are available online, and check out our other accessories like body brushes and loofahs in-store at Kentucky Soaps & Such!
